Natascha Basedau

I’m Natascha Basedau and I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I completed my clinical training at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and have gained experience working as a clinical psychologist in a number of settings, with diverse patientgroups, in both South Africa and the UK. I am currently working clinically within a specialist NHS service for older people, and teaching as a senior lecturer on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Hertfordshire.
I have completed further post-qualification training in psychotherapy and neuropsychology, including a post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Glasgow. My particular interests are working with the issues that present later in life, including adapting to a loss of functioning, making meaning in older age, and facing the challenges of increased dependency and bereavement, specialising in the assessment and treatment of dementia.

My approach

In my clinical and teaching roles, I take a particular interest in social justice, including the operation of ageism in society, and how societal processes impact on individual experiences of ageing.
My preferred therapeutic modalities are psychodynamic and CBT, and I offer both short and longer-term therapy.
Previously, I held the role of clinical lead of a multidisciplinary challenging behaviour team, and have extensive experience of providing consultation, reflective practice and bespoke training packages to staff teams. In addition, I am skilled in providing clinical supervision to psychologists and members of other professional groups.
